Here at CryoSport Recovery, we use various types of complementary therapies to help our clients manage painful conditions, recover from injury and become unstuck in their lives.
Today, I would like to highlight two of the therapies we use that, when combined with improved nutrition, can really help improve your general well being and help you be your best self.
About Andrea Pugh
I discovered cryotherapy after seeing it transform a friend’s life.
She struggled with fibromyalgia, was constantly in pain, exhausted, and unable to work.
Even hugs were unbearable.
After a course of cryotherapy, she was clearer, moving again, and pain free enough to hug her loved ones.
It was life changing.
Inspired, I retrained, opened my studio, and added treatments like sports massage and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP).
Now, I help individuals recover faster, manage pain, and get back to doing what they love.
Cryotherapy – What is it?
Firstly, localised cryotherapy, is an emerging popular treatment amongst individuals suffering from painful conditions and recovering from injury.
This innovative technique involves applying cold temperatures to specific areas of the body, promoting healing and reducing inflammation.
By decreasing blood flow to the targeted area, it reduces swelling and pain, allowing individuals to return to their daily activities more quickly.
The rest of the body stays warm and trust me…it is a pleasant experience.
These effects of localised cryotherapy can be significantly enhanced by proper nutrition.
Eating a balanced diet, rich in anti-inflammatory foods (I’ll signpost you to Claire who is an expert in this field) helps reduce inflammation in the body and supports our mobility.
By combining both the cryotherapy and nutrition can help you manage painful conditions more effectively and recover from injury more quickly.

What Else Can Cryotherapy treat?
As we’ve already discussed Cryotherapy is excellent to help with muscular injuries, sprains and strains.
It can also reduce muscle fatigue and soreness after intense training.
However, it can help with chronic pain conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia.
Cryotherapy also reduces swelling and inflammation in specific areas of the body, aiding recovery and can be particularly beneficial for post-surgery healing or inflammatory conditions.
It is particularly effective reducing the painful symptoms of bulging discs in the lower back, especially when combined with dry needling.
Who Has Cryotherapy Helped?
I’ve had many clients who have tried physio, sports massage and still been in pain and discomfort.
One of my current clients, who struggled to walk through the door as she was suffering from a bulging disc, completed a series of cryotherapy and sports massage treatments and she no longer suffers pain from her lower back.
Another of my clients, tore his calf muscle whilst playing football. He came to me for some cryotherapy treatments and was weight bearing and exercising again within a month.
I’ve even had a client travel over 3 hours for cryotherapy treatments to help with a painful rib injury.
The benefits cover a wide range of symptoms and conditions and if in doubt, try it out!!
How Cryotherapy and NLP Can Work Together for Lasting Results
While cryotherapy helps reduce physical pain and inflammation, chronic pain often has a mental and emotional component as well.
This is where Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) can play a powerful role.
This is a highly effective method that explores the connection between our thoughts, language and behavioural patterns.
By exploring the connection and by using language and techniques, we can change our thoughts which ultimately changes our behaviours and action.
This allows us to focus on the negative behaviours or habits that may be stopping us achieving what we want to achieve by addressing the underlying thought processes.
Changing limiting beliefs and reframing negative self -talk can help you for example change your attitude and become more positive in your thinking – it’s the change from thinking “I want to, but I can’t” to “I want to and I can”.
When paired with cryotherapy – targeting physical pain and inflammation, this holistic approach tackles both body and mind to give you the tools to manage chronic pain more effectively and regain control of your life.
Addressing Nutrition and Mental Barriers
Maintaining a healthy diet can sometimes be hard, there are so many temptations out there.
NLP can help individuals identify and change negative beliefs about food or their body image, promoting healthier eating behaviours.
By utilising techniques such as reframing thoughts and visualisations, individuals can overcome mental barriers related to food choices and eating habits.
This mental shift can lead to increased motivation to adapt a balanced diet, resulting in better overall health and well-being.
At CryoSport Recovery, we take a holistic view of our client’s wellbeing, both physically and mentally.
And this might mean combining different therapies and treatments to help our clients achieve what they want.
By doing this, the outcome can be a lot more powerful for the individual concerned.
